Q: What are the system requirements for the instruments of Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar iPhone apps?
A: All the Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar iOS apps (Version 2.0 and 2.1) work on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS4.2 or above. For Version 2.2 or above, the iOS apps work on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS5.0 or above.

Q: I am a Gamelan beginner, which instrument should I download?
A: You are recommended to download the metallophone instruments with more keys in the gangsa, such as Pemade, Kantil, or Giying.

Q: I do not know anything about Balinese Gamelan. Can I still use these apps?
A: Of course! The set of Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar iOS apps is designed to enable everyone to enjoy Balinese Gamelan. You may know more about Balinese Gamelan at http://web.hku.hk/~gamelano/. Just try it out. You will love it!

Operation

Q: Can the apps run in portrait mode?
A: The apps can run in both landscape and portrait mode on an iPad, while they can only run in landscape mode on an iPod Touch/iPhone.

Q: Why there is no sound?
A: Check the volume setting on your iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad. You can adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down buttons on the left side of the iPhone.

Q: I have turned on the loudspeaker and still cannot hear the sound of the gongs.
A: The Gong and Kempur produce very low-pitched sounds and require a high-quality sound system for best sound reproduction. The built-in loudspeaker of iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad is not good enough for the purpose. The use of a high-quality headphone or external amplifier with good bass response is recommended.

Q: How can I control the volume of the apps?
A: You can use the built-in volume control on the side of the iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad to adjust the volume of the apps.

Q: The volume of the apps appeared to be low. Why?
A: The speaker is at the bottom of the iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad. Check that the speaker is not being covered.

Q: The response of the apps is slow. Is this a problem?
A: The amount of free memory available for the app affects the amount of latency, please try the followings to see if the latency can be reduced:

  1. Close every app (including the Gamelan Gong Kebyar apps) by touching and holding the app icon in the recent list until it begins to jiggle, then tap the red close button.
  2. Start the app and check again.
  3. You can also try shutting down the device (hold power button for a few seconds and slide to confirm) and restarting it (press power button) if it has not been restarted for a long time.
